AMD has this week expanded its line of Athlon 64 processors, in the latest round of its competitive battles with Intel, this time in the arena of mobile computing. The new Athlon 64 processor 3000+ operates at 2 GHz and is intended for use in mobiles. This expands on the 2700+ and 2800+ mobile Athlons which were already available.

Although many companies will no doubt be interested in using such a chip in their mobile computers, Acer have been the first to announce takeup of the new processor. They plan to use it in their Ferrari line of mobile PCs, which should be available in Europe at the end of the month and in the rest of the world by the end of next month.
