I can't uninstall the existing drivers. I can't install the new ones. I went device manager and uninstalled the display adapters...rebooted....nothing changed....
I can't even use the PNY driver disk that came with the video card to uninstall or install anything.
Keeps saying error before launch and kicks me out of the setup.

Does anybody have any clue what is going on here? I've never had a problem updating drivers in the past.

Thanks.

Rather than using the setup on the disc can you try and manually update the drivers by asking windows to look for the drivers from the relevant folder on the disc?

Hey,
AV is off. Manually updating the driver does nothing. I even manually deleted the folders and whatnot. My current driver is 44.03...no matter what I do, I can't get rid of em, let alone install any new ones. After rebooting, the drivers are still there.
annoying....

Don't reboot, just uninstall, then run the setup for your new drivers.

the main problem is that the setup for the new drivers fails to launch.....it errs and kicks me out right after it extracts all the files and brings to the the nividia setup screen.

Here's the bump......my directx 9 games are not running properly, I really need the new drivers installed....

If this is a self-extracting setup-file, rightclick it and extract all files with the help of winzip or winrar to a directory of your choice, letting it make sub-directories (just in case). Then try setup from that directory.

Ok here's a stab in the dark, remove the inf file for the driver from the windows\inf\other directory. Go into regedit and do a search for any mention of the driver you are trying to remove, delete them if found. (make a back up of your reg file first) :). Search your drive for any nvidia files. Delete them if found.
Change your current display to a standard vga 16 colour. Press ctrl-alt-del to make sure no programs are running in the background. Try to install. If this still fails get another copy of your installation files.

Hope this is of help

Well, I had to do a destructive system recovery and reformat the hard drive....went back to factory settings and wiped the slate clean.
Installed the new drivers with no problems...
Of course I'm lazy and don't back anything up...nothing important, Mp3's, porn and saved games....whatever....back to the drawing board...
I never did finish Mafia, mine as well start from the beginning anyway....

IN other words....IT SUCKED!!!!!!
