AOPEN DVD-RW Problems

i have an Aopen Chameleon 16x DVD-RW drive and its been working absolutely fine for about 4/5 months...but recently (i think it was after a windows update about 3 weeks ago) the drive has stopped recognising any DVD's that i put in it. It still recognises CD-R's and burns to them but not DVD-R's its also the same with DVD films and games.
I have tried uninstalling it and re-installing it with no luck and updating the firmware (i couldnt find a driver update for it). i also uninstalled Nero and installed a newer version.
The computer recognises the drive as a DVD-RW drive but wont recognise DVD's in it.

Can anyone help me with my problem??

Its broke. The lasers die occationally, just concidence that it happened around a windows update. To be sure you can try the drive in another computer or download a bootable dvd and see if you can boot off the dvd.

but the drive still works as a CD-RW drive, do they use different lasers?

Yes. They use different lasers.
