Asus Lightscribe DVD-RW playing up

Hello everyone

Just Built a new system and testing it. First couple of times i used my asus lightscribe dvd-rw it worked fine but now this happens. It recognises the disk when its first booted, but if I replace the disk with another one I have to reboot the system as it doesn't recognise it. It seems to almost freeze the system.

Please help!!

ditto, happens to mine too, i was thinking if it's the window problems or the DVD itself

if it's happening to both of you then it's probably the hardware that's the problem but we'll see if anyone else has any other ideas

happens to my LG DVD-RAM Lightscribe too.
what i did was to reinstall the drive physically and everything works...
(mine is IDE, not SATA) and perhaps... invert the cable too...
(short one towards the drive.)

for my case, the symptom is:
when first booted, the drive shows as CD Drive, not DVD-RAM or DVD-RW
