How do I start a thread here?

I'm sorry to post on your thread, but I can't figure out how to start a post.
I need help with Audacity.
I'm trying to rip my cassettes to cd, using Audacity.
Everthing seems hooked up correctly, I can hear and record my cassette tape into the Audacity program, but when I play it back, the sound is garbled, and skips.
I made sure when I recorded the sound that the red microphone bar, didn't go to zero so it wouldn't (clip out?), cut off the music.
I'm new to forums, computers....Audacity, so please forgive my faux pas.
