Automate scheduled tasks

Could someone please suggest a nice site where I could learn to make batch files, to automate my tasks (cleanmngr, chkdsk, defrag). XP built in software doesn't seem to work and when I ask Microsoft about it, they wouldn't support an OEM version. Scheduled tasks always confirm it was set up correctly, but then it never runs. So please if anyone knows of such a site, I'd appreciate it.
