Greetings, I am a new member, searching for a solution to rid my computer of this virus. I've read some of the threads on it, and would welcome some assistance. I use McAfee which doesn't seem to find this bug. Warning, I am not a savy technical user, and may have some very basic questions on what may seem to be obvious instructions. If buying good virus removal softare will be the easiest solution just let me know which and I'll get it. I have MS XP. Thanks! Mike

Hi mikekelsey and welcome to TechSpot.

As far as i know there is no automated way of removing this pest. Follow the instructions below.

Please download FindAWF to your Desktop.
Double-click FindAWF.exe to start the tool.
Select "option #1 - Scan for bak folders" by typing 1 and press Enter
When the tool has completed, a report will open up in notepad. Please post the results of the awf.txt as an attachment.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Your system is infected with a trojan called Downloader.Agent.awf. It replaces legitimate files that are common on most computers with an infected file. Then, it moves the legitimate files to a bak or backup folder.

Very Important: Before deciding whether you should clean or reformat your system, go and read this thread HERE and decide what it is you want to do.

If after reading the above, you wish to clean your system, do the following.

Go and read this thread HERE and follow the instructions exactly. Post the requested log files as attachments once done.

Regards Howard

Thanks alot, the instructions were easy to follow and I've deleted all the BAK files as indicated. I'm now installing the software as instructed. Appreciate it....Mike

If you post your a fresh findawf.txt as an ATTACHMENT then we can see if the problem is gone completely or not.

For attachments. click "go advanced", its easy from there.

You still need to post the requested log files, then we can check to see what else needs to be done, if anything.

Regards Howard :)
