  1. Im new to all this so please bare with me!!

Anyway as I was saying, before i feck up my new notebook,I was wondering if someone could enlighten me.

I have recently bought a new HP notebook and everything seems to be fine.Installed firefox straight away(nat) and use it 99.9% of the time. There is one site that i do use regulary (financial) that does not support firefox though and as such i have to use IE (uugh!).For some reason I cannot change the homepage to the one I want and no matter what I do it remains at (default when i first opened it).I haven't needed to try and change it up untill now so I dont know if its only recently become a problem or one thats been there from the start (HP's doing perhaps?)I have read Real Back Stuff's thread on hijacks and was wondering do i have to go through that process or is there something simple that I should/could try first?

The easiest way is to get HJT, put it in \Program Files\HJT, boot in Safe mode, run HJT and do a scan.
You'll see a bunch of entries starting with R0 and R1. Put a tickmark in front of all those, then click on the Fix Checked button. Quit HJT and reboot normal.
You should now be able to put in what you like.
If not, see How to post your Hijackthis log-files as an attachment.

    Hey RBS,

I have tried to do what you have suggested but there are two entries that just will not go away. There were 3 originally but two of these remain:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL =

The one that removed was :
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext =

    Any thoughts?

Go and read this thread HERE and post a HJT log as an attachment.
