BenQ DVD Burner doesnt read some DVDs

Hey all!
I need some help with my DVD burner.. BenQ DW1620.. i hav had it for bout 3 years and i havnt noticed this problem before..
Certain DVDs that i insert into my DVD burner read as being BLANK DVDs whereas i know they are not blank... other DVDs do seem to work..
I did a test and got my friend 2 burn a couple dvds for me.. from the same DVD burner.. 1 of them worked.. whereas 1 didnt.. so im really confused at whats wrong with my DVD burner?

Replace the burner... 3 years is old for a burner. My NEC burner is approaching this age

Try this first,
Update the Firmware.
It fixed my read problem.
But mine was brand new.
So you might need a new one.
I had one only 2 1/2 years.
