Beware iOS 9.3.4 update [resolved]

Two iPads (one controlled via Mac, other via Win/7 pro) received notice of update 9.3.4 was available.
Attempt to update lead into:

• not applicable to this device
• disconnect - reconnect offers Update or Restore
• both fail the same way

Took the iPad mini 4 to Apple; 9.3.4 has crashed several iPads today, but ran on at least one iPhone.

Tech had to refresh the firmware and then update to 9.3.4 (btw, you can't roll-back to 9.3.3 either) which created an Out-of-the-Box device (ie all personal data lost). However, once attached to iTunes, the restore was fully effective.
