Bios problem(PLEASE HELP)????

I was trying to fix a computer for a friend. His bios had a password on it and he didn't know it so I took the internal battery out and reset it WOW what a mistake......Well I got the password off, installed windows xp but now theirs a whole new problem the computer will start up and shut down but WILL NOT RESTART at all!!! If I try to restarting it just keeps beeping over and over again Black screen and everything....Whats wrong with it PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Without you telling us what pc it is it would be almost impossibleto diagnose the problem by guessing alone!!!!
