Broken Hard Drive?

Recently my computer has been making strange noises, especially when starting up. I suspect something in the hard drive is malfunctioning. Anyone have any tips on troubleshooting?

Clicking noises would mean your drive is dieing.

Your hard drive manufacture has a drive utility that will check the device for you. Of course you'll have to know the make and model of the drive to get the proper utility.

If it's more of a hum or rattle then it could well be a fan.

Its like a loud humming/ buzzing, but not the vacuum like sound if the cpu is overheating. It sounds a little like a drying machine. Also, sometimes there are beeps every second. When I put my computer on sleep or restart it, the problem is fixed, until the next time I turn on the computer
