The floppy drive light staying on is usually the result of plugging in the data connector upside down. I did it myself on my first build. If the BIOS won't read the F drive, check the jumper setting. If it is an IDE drive (PATA), make sure you have set the master and slave settings correctly. Also, just to cover this base, make sure you have installed all motherboard drivers. If the device in question is a SATA drive, make sure the appropriate SATA/RAID drivers are also installed.
