BURNED DVD wont play in my home player

I have a Sony DRU 800-a dual layer burner...using RCA dvd-R...8x...4.76 mb discs...the disc wont play in my home dvd player...it says can't recognize cd..n e suggestions would really help.. thank you... :) :)

what did you burn? was it a divx/xvid (.avi)? was it a home video? if so, is it .dv ? let us know what the format of the original file was, if you converted it or not and what type of dvd player your home player is..
 
did you make sure you burnt it to DVD format, you have to make sure you encode in the right format to make it play in DVD players
