Can someone help? (no one else can)

ok my pc has had this trouble for along time...
tried changing the sound card...
tried reformating the hard drive... yeah.. nothing works

what happens is if im using a program that uses sound..
it will play for awhile
and then the sound will stop working..
(example)
when i play itunes.. it plays for a bit.. sometimes plays for one song.. sometimes it plays for an hour or more without the sound going off...
but when it DOES turn off the sound...
i tunes stops playing the song...
like the sound just doenst go off..
itunes will act like its paused the song..
and no sound will work on any other programs...
same as if im on mozilla
does the same ****...
and when i exit out of the programs that are using sound..
the sound starts working again...
also.. does this while i play video games
i recently resubed to starwars galaxies..
my sound turns off withint 10 min usually...
and then it freezes too..
when im in video games...
sooo ive asked alot of people..
no one knows..
someone help?

What are the PC's specs?

Could be power pack or overheat trouble. Overheat of anything, really, at the age of your PC. Try starting system monitor and watch the CPU utilisation. When the music cuts out, does the CPU go 100% or 0% ?? If 0% you probably have CPU heat-protection acting, and could solve it by reseating the CPU with fresh paste.

just bought a new fan.. didnt work...

see today its been lasting.. i put a box fan in front of my computer.. (i have the sides off my pc) errr....
but it hasnt been doin it after i did that.. i KNOW it has to be an over heating problem... but what is over heating exactly?
ive checked my CPU temp... and it was low when me and my bud checked it ... we ran programs and stuff.. and mine was lower than his.. and his dont pull this kinda **** lol
