Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Your system is badly infected with malware.

Very Important: Before deciding whether you should clean or reformat your system, go and read this thread HERE and decide what it is you want to do.

If after reading the above, you wish to clean your system, do the following.

Go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as attachments into this thread, only after doing the above.

Also, let me know the results of the AVG Antirootkit scan.

Regards Howard

next step.....?

hows it goin. Thanks so much for your time and energy.
I followed the posted instructions and gathered the required information. I have 3 logs. My computer has been running well, i was having a problem with ie6 closing on me but that seems to have stopped. I also was having problems with popups and that too has stopped. I ran anti-rootkit 2 times and it came up clean. I tried to run it again while in safemode but there was an error. WOnt run anymore. says I should reinstall. also I got some kind of message about zonealarms compatibility with avg. I hadnt noticed anything but just recently while trying to run avg the final step in safemode it stalled and closed. restarted it and proceeded with scan no problem. no problem since.... THanks

All items in your AVG Antispyware log say "No Action Taken". That`s because you haven`t told AVG Antispyware to quarantine it`s results as per the instructions. See this pictorial guide.

Download the Pocket Killbox programme from HERE. Extract it but don`t run it yet.

You might want to copy and paste these instructions into a notepad file. Then you can have the file open in safe mode, so you can follow the instructions easier.

Boot into safe mode, under your normal user name(NOT THE ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT). See how HERE.

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE.

Go to add remove programmes in your control panel and uninstall anything to do with(if there).

WinAntiVirus Pro 2007<This is a rogue programme and it`s very nasty.

Close control panel.

Open your task manager, by holding down the ctrl and alt keys and pressing the delete key.

Click on the processes tab and end process for(if there).

wa7pcw.exe
WinAv.exe
rtasks.exe
mav_startupmon.exe

Close task manager.

Run HJT with no other programmes open(except notepad). Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mav_startupmon] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007\mav_startupmon.exe"

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rtasks] C:\Program Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007\rtasks.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wa7pcw] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007\wa7pcw.exe" -c

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinAntiVirus Pro 2007] C:\Program Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007\WinAv.exe /min

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BootService] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\byvvus.dll",realset

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [wa7pcw] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007\wa7pcw.exe" -c

O20 - AppInit_DLLs:

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Locate and delete the following bold files and/or directories(if there).

C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007<Delete the entire folder.
C:\Program Files\WinAntiVirus Pro 2007<Delete the entire folder.

Run the killbox.exe file. When it loads type the full path to the file you would like to delete in the field and check the delete file on reboot button. press the Delete File button (looks like a red circle with a white X). It will prompt you to reboot, select no until you have finished inputting the files you want to delete, only then allow it to reboot and hopefully your files will now be deleted. If your computer doesn`t automatically restart, restart it manually.

This is the filepath you need to enter into killbox.

C:\WINDOWS\byvvus.dll

Once your system has rebooted, rehide your protected OS files.

Post another AVG Antispyware scan as well as a fresh HJT log.

Regards Howard :)

some more....

so I reran antispy and quarintined find. Wavp7 was not in add/rem prog and not at the given locations but i did find it in c:\wavp7 and deleted. emptied recycle. HJT found and fixed all of the given programs. Killbox was also successful. here are the asked for logs...

btw you rock.. so does your board.

Well done, your HJT log is now clean.

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE.

Now, turn system restore back on. This will have deleted all your old restore points and any nasties that are in them. It will also have created a new, clean restore point.

If you have any further virus/spyware problems, please post in this thread.

Hi Howard,

How did you know that "C:\WINDOWS\byvvus.dll" needed killbox to remove?

I did a search on google and couldn't find anything on it :p

I knew it wasn`t a Vundo infection due to the files location. Normally, most .dll files are located in the system32 folder and not in the windows folder. That`s not to say there aren`t any .dll files in the windows folder, just not very many.

Also, if you Google byvvus.dll, you won`t find any results for it. That in itself is a sign it could be nasty, as most legit .dll files have some info available.

The location of the file in HJT was also a sign of suspicion. The rest really comes down to experience in dealing with these kinds of infections.

Killbox was my first choice for removing the file, simply because I know it`s pretty effective and safe to use. Obviously, if Killbox had failed to delete the file, I would`ve had to use something a else, probably the Avenger. However, I mostly like to keep the Avenger programme as a last resort as it`s extremely powerful and therefore can be quite dangerous.

it came back.... :(

so i was trying to remove google toolbar and ran a new avg antispy and that the trojan.agent had returned. I went into safemode, unhid my hidden files and ran a new avgantispyware as well as hijack this.. the logs are attached...thanks for your time again.

Apparently AVG was finding backups that Killbox and ComboFix had made. It also found something bad that had been living in system restore.

You need to do this if you haven't already.

Regards :)

yup

yeah i did that as soon as I was told. This came up after all the restore points had been deleted

Delete all files in AVG Antispyware quarantine. Then, in addition to the logs requested by kitty500cat. Please post a fresh Combofix log as well.

Please visit this link http://virusscan.jotti.org/
* Click the Browse... button
* Navigate to the following file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\tdird.sys
* Click Open
* Then, do the same for this file. C:\WINDOWS\system32\16d2589841.sys Please let me know the results.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 from HERE. Save it to your Desktop and extract it.

2. Download the attached avengerscript.txt and save it to your desktop

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by double clicking on its icon on your desktop.

Under "Script file to execute" choose "Load script from file".
Now click on the folder icon which will open a new window titled "open Script File"
navigate to the file you have just downloaded, click on it and press open
Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:

It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

5. Please attach the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply, as well as fresh HJT and combofix logs

You didn`t let me know the results of the Jotti scans. Please do so in your next reply.

Your HJT log is clean.

Run the Avenger programme again, but use the script file below.

Then post the Avenger log as well as the Jotti results.

Ok, that looks fine.

Unless you`re still having problems, you should be good to go.

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE.

Now, turn system restore back on. This will have deleted all your old restore points and any nasties that are in them. It will also have created a new, clean restore point.

If you have any further virus/spyware problems, please post in this thread.

The best way you can help is to browse our forums and try and answer a few posts here and there, whenever you can or feel like it.

One of the best bits of advice I can give you, is only try and answer posts, if you think you`ve something relevant to add. Also, as sometimes happens, it may become clear to you that you don`t know the answer to something. In that case, simply tell the person you`re helping that you don`t know the answer. No one knows everything and there`s absolutely no shame in admitting you`re out of ideas.
