Cannot modify files on ext drive

Hi,

I have an external hard drive which I used on a win xp system. I was the admin on that machine. I moved on to a win 2000 machine now, just as a user. The files that I had created earlier have for some reason become read-only. The files that I create now give me full access. I am not sure what is happening, I am the "owner" of the hard drive but it does not let me modify the earlier data. Could someone help me out?

Thanks.

On right click over folder name and properties, I do not see a "security tab". I see general, sharing, customize. I noticed on the general tab under attributes, "read-only" was checked. I unchecked it and pressed OK and yes to apply to all subfolders. After it was done, I rechecked the attributes and "read-only" was checked again! I am not sure what is happening.
