can't access property of game controller in windows xp.

i can't calibrate the usb joystick of my pc as i can't use the 'property' button of game controller option in the control panel of windows xp (control panel>game controller>property). when i click the 'property' tab,nothing happens,as if it has been disabled.how can i reactivate that 'property' button?Please help.

Did you install the software that came with your controller????

Yes,the problem started after installing the software that came along with the controller,and uninstallation of the software solves the problem,i.e my pc can recognize the controller without the software but can't calibrate it in presence of the software.what should i do?
