Can't burn CDs

Please help!

I'm having serious problems trying to burn CDs.

I've tried setting the IDE controller between DMA and PIO, reinstalling drivers, reinstalling Nero, forced ASPI, closing down other programs, choosing a slower speed but with no joy.

Here's my Nero log:

Thanks.

Try updating the burner firmware?
Install the official ASPI layer from Adaptec.

Cant Burn Cd's

One of the most common things with CDR Software is by the time you get it and install it they already found issues with the software compatibility Try going to the Manufacturers Site and searching for a Patch.
Your I.D. String shows It is Compatible with your OS and the system But what it is not showing is the version I.D. Chances are the MFR Has an Update or a Patch to cure this Problem If they Dont Try Using something other than the Software you Have Such as NERO Basic Or Some Other Types Of CDR Software One Of them is Bound to work

Thanks for all your replies, I really appreciate it.

Ok, I tried XP's built in CD burning but with no luck. CDBurnerXP Pro didn't work for me either. I then tried Roxio Easy CD Creator, Clone CD and a half dozen other programs but they all seemed to do the same thing, i.e. start the burn process but give up after a minute or so.

As far as Nero goes I checked their site and got all the updates but they don't seem to be doing the trick.

Nodsu, I've got a basic idea of what firmware is but I can't find anything specifically for my laptop (Compaq Evo N1020v). Both HP and Compaq list firmware for download but not specifically for the CD/DVD combo. Should I download the BIOS firmware? I installed the ASPI layer but, again, it wasn't enough to actually get the damn thing to work.

Any other ideas before this sodding thing takes flying lessons?!?

You need to get the recorder firmware from the drive maker, not HP. You have to figure out who made your DVD recorder (I can see from Nero logs that it is LG GCC-4240N), go to their site (www.lge.com) and get the firmware update from the downloads page.

LG and HP were of absolutely no help at all but I did find some firmware for my drive at The Dangerous Brothers website. Alas, that still hasn't solved the problem.

I guess it must be a hardware problem.

If you loaded all of those other authoring/writing software you will cause much more trouble.Nero will not get along with them and you will have to remove them comepletely. Nero has a cleaning tool.
You may have to clean and reload Nero also.
After re-install,check nero Info tool to confirm both ASPI layers are installed correctly.
Then do a firmware update.
Turn Windows writing Software Off
Turn CD Autorun Off
DMA needs to then be tested both On?off to see if it causes issues.
Clean the Rom with a Head cleaner.
Have fun and let us know if it is working.

Try This

Each time I get new dvd rom that copies I new newest fm to get the newer features.

Also NERO needs to be updated as well alot of time even if it came with it.

NERO will copy 99.99999999999 but for that one percent that it cant I get cd clone

I do not see all the correct files for your aspi layer. Check the "infotool "( in Nero )"for "Aspi layer" there are 2 sets that both must be correctly installed Nero aspi which is loaded with the program a" system aspi" which must be installed seperately. If info tool says it is corrupted or not comepletely installed
Do a web search for' Force aspi ' do a little reading, print instructions ,Download the software , and just follow the directions.
It is just a little Command line typing .

hi
i'm again
thanks for the email you sent me.you were right because drivers were not installed properly. Now i installed force aspi drivers 4.60 and in Nero ,,info tool '' seems that all are ok (ASPI is instaled and working properly) but again the problem is the same.

here is nero history

is it a rw or just an r you're trying to burn?
are you able to burn with teh burner previously? windows cd burner works?
tried using a different media type/brand and burned?
firmware/drivers updated for the burner?
make sure no other writing programs exist/disabled on the machine?
recent changes to the pc?

sorry if i stand out as a sore thumb but just need to know what troubleshooting steps you've already done and any other info....

hi
my device is cd-rw/dvd and I'm burning before with this cd burner and this problem appeared when i formated laptop
now i can play music, dvd, etc only i can't burn cd.
my laptop is Dell precision m50
combo is hl-dt-st rw/dvd gcc-4240n and cd is RW (memorex)
and i don't know how to test (know)for other writing programs exist/disabled on the machine.
i have tried whith real player, windows media player.nero 6.6 etc and problem is same.

Your log file states that there is " not enough free disk space "
You can check in nero>preferences for the temp file that is used for the Cache . I do not know if you have more than 1 partition , but this is one reason to partition a hard drive, so you can be sure 1 drive has free space.
System restore , temp internet file , hibernation and even windows Search take up tons of drive space.
Check out the layout of your machine and see what you can do.
Also did you install Nero " burnrights Plugin" it can makesure Windows security is not stopping a User (limited ) from writing.
