It's time for a new combo burner Hod. They are not expensive, and this will save you a lot of time and grief

There must be a software, driver or firmware fix for this?
That is what i am looking for, not a new drive.

Has this drive ever burned CD's for you? If so, and it just stopped burning one day, the drive is worn out. You may not be looking for a new drive, but you are going to need a new drive... Sorry for the bad news

CD burners use two 'different lasers' to read and write optical media. For whatever reason, your CD-RW is probably unable to generate the proper laser intensity or depth required to burn CDs. This is why your optical drive can still read (working laser) but not write (bum laser). This is a common problem and yes, you will have to replace it if this is the case. There is no firmware or configuration change that will fix this.

New DVD burners run less than $30 after shipping now... So almost anyone can afford to replace their CD burner these days. www.newegg.com
