CDW/DVD TS-H492A problem

We get the message, insert cd into drive, when trying to burn a cd and after we have inserted a blank cd. We also cannot read any CDs. When we use device mgr it is saying that there is NO problem with this drive and it is working. I have also done a driver check and this comes up good. We are using Windows XP, does anyone have any ideas on what could be the problelm? We get no other error messages....and we are stumped....

Have you tried cleaning the drive? How old is the drive? Did you wipe off the drive? You could try using a cd / dvd drive cleaner cd that runs in the drive an cleans the lenses.

Have you tried to use a different program for burning cds?

Try uninstalling the drive and reinstalling. Go into device manager, find the drive, right click it, and click uninstall. Reboot. Your computer should recognize the drive after reboot and reinstall it. Update the drivers as well.

Uninstall the cd / dvd writing program and reinstall. Or, try another program for burning.

We have not tried cleaning the drive, but we will try this....

It's funny you mention using a different program for burning cds, the TSST site suggests that Easy CD Creator has not been installed, and that is true, we don't see this installed but cannot remember what program we used in the past to burn CDs. Are there certain programs that should be used with this type of device? or can any program be used? are there any programs you suggest?
