I have a compaq(bought second hand) had Windows ME on it. One morning it would not boot up it would not even boot in safe mode. I used Windows 98 boot disk and did a format, with intention of putting Windows 2000 0n it until I could get a copy of XP Pro, but I cannot get it to run the OS from cd. I can access D drive with command prompt but it will not load the OS. Can someone help????

Go into your bios and set the boot priority to floppy drive/cd-rom/hard drive.

Put the Windows 2000 disk into your cd drive and save and exit bios.

When prompted, press any key to boot from cd. Follow the onscreen instructions. Delete all your partitions and format the hard drive in the ntfs file system.

Regards Howard :)

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was so simple, I do not know why I could not think of that, worked like a dream, I reconfigured for the DSL and had it up and running in no time. My kids thank you as that is their system, and now I don't have to let them on mine.:)
