I understand that when you change Chipsets one should Install OS from scratch Hence getting rid of all .INF Files and regestry values. But,,If one was to stay in the same chipset family, i.e. Intel 845 & 845E, respectively in a Compaq(845) & MSI i845E-Max.
Would it be recomended to fresh install aswell?
My plan is to get an AMD "VIA" chipset MOBO and replace my MSI P4 platform. "I" need to format and re-install my OS, Now i want to put My old setup in my girls Compaq "IT" has a totaly "Locked" Intel 845 chipset P4 MOBO in it,,swaping it out would be as simple as that rite? Would just installing/updating .inf files be ok?

Both running Win98SE
Thanks all.:grinthumb

Win98SE is pretty good at detecting and adapting to new hardware, so you might as well give it a go. There are no guarantees that it will work, and it is always better to reinstall if you have the time, especially since Win98SE does get slower with use.
