Choppy DVD audio playback

Hello, I am unable to watch any DVDs as audio is constantly jumping and stuttering.

I have verified that CD audio is fine, made sure I'm not trying to watch bootleg DVDs and have checked that DMA is enabled on both IDE channels.
Is there anything else I can do?

I have loads of good films I want to watch so any help much appreciated!

Thanks,

Vicky

do you software-decode audio
or are you using a sound card with hardware ac3 decoder?

If it is done by your software (power dvd , win dvd etc) open task manager and turn off all processes listed with your user name (leave just the system srevices etc running) before you start the movie.

If this does not help try different DVD playback app.

If your sound card allows ac3 decoding select this option on the sound card and use SPDIF in the dvd playback app

run task manager and see what your CPU useage is at when dvd's are playing. there are a few common causes for what you mentioned.

Most of them involve either the software VOB stream splitter or the mpeg2 decoder itself. If you have installed any sort of "codec pack" these can ocassionally cause this problem as well.

What software are you using to watch dvds and wahat your basic computer specs?
