Clone OS with new motherboard

I want to clone XP SP2 from an old HDD (IDE) to new HDD (SATA) using a new mobo (Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4; 6 SATA ports, 1 IDE port). I've been told I have to repair/reinstall Windows (when I boot) to do this with a new mobo and new HDD. So it's not possible to directly clone to the new HDD from old HDD?

Its definately possible to clone the drive, but you will not be able to just run Windows like that. Unless its the same board with the same chipsets Windows won't like it. A repair might work, but really you are better off clean installing.
