Hey, I have had this problem for few months now, very annoying. At first I thought it was something my antivirus/spybot couldnt find so decided to format hard-drive and re-install windows XP pro. No luck :( I only get it when playing games.

The problem is:
during games usually 10-20 mins playing, my screen freezes for about 5 seconds then 2 mins later it will do it again, occasionally it freezes, then freezes straigt after that and that and that untill I have to restart, there is no movement atall, my mouse cursor doesnt do anything and sometimes my sound makes ticking sounds.

I ran panda antivirus scan, spybot scan, abexo regitory scan, tried turning my sounds off ingame.

The games it does it in are CS:S, Lord of the rings online and Sword of the new world which are the 3 of 4 games i have installed. For some reason the error does not apply to lotr battle for middle earth 2, that game runs fine.

I'm not sure what to do, I also tried dusting my comp getting all the crap out, putting my normal fan next to my opened case but still no luck.

1 More thing, when I play lotr online, I can tell when the error is going to occur as some of the graphics ingame, like characters and trees mess up abit, changing colour for a split second

Any help would be great. Thanks ;)

Please post brand and model of computer or motherboard.

Your systems behaviors most imitate those for overheating. Take a look at your cpu fan, and heat sink, to assure they are not stuffed with dirt, dust, and hair.

Then look for temperature sensing software to get reports on what your cpu temperature range might be.

Consider a new CPU fan and heat sink if temperatures report high. Also a case fan helps on some brands and models.

I would also look carefully for infestations using something other than the software you now have. Panda is weak in virus detection, and you might benefit greatly from another spyware scan. Spybot is good but incomplete. There are free scans that might tell you if you have problems.

Download and run the newest version of HiJack This, and post the results here on this forum. There are some skilled people here who can often tell you of infestations plague.

sounds like a minidump error. I get those too after playing like 10 mins of call of duty 2. Search "sysdata.xml" on google to research about the problem. It could be your ram that might be faulty.

But i havent put new things into my comp for over a year except my hardrive, my ram was working fine. All started couple months ago :(

hmm this may sound stupid but have you recently updated your drivers at all?
if so, roll back and see if that makes any difference
if not, update them (one at a time tho)

im not expert but it sounds like your gfx card is overheating.. have you over clocked it recently?
if you have the nvidia card tuner software try turning everything to safe mode..

i used to have the same issue with EA games stuff but i found the problem was because i had deamon tools running in the background and that some EA games dont like it as they think your gonna copy them

good luck

The drivers I have installed are the same ones I had installed before I had trouble, I havent done anything to my gfx card and my BIOS settings is default

I think that Dumpfile would be more useful.
"C:\DOCUME~1\Gav\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER0471.dir00\Mini062707-01.dmp"

Find that file and upload it. People here can have a look at it.

That dump's crashed at the video card drivers with bugcheck EA. Have you checked the temperature of the video card?

0x000000EA: THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER
A device driver problem has caused the system to pause indefinitely (hang). Typically, this is caused by a display driver waiting for the video hardware to enter an idle state. This might indicate a hardware problem with the video dapter, or a faulty video driver.

Thanks for the help guys, but what would you advise me to do then? Buy a new gfx card? This one is only 2 years old :(

You could try to update to the most current drivers. Also, you will want to rule out your card overheating. After gaming for a few minutes (but before crash) exit the game and check your gpu temp.

Found the problem, im sure its my gfx card overheating as i stuck my normal office fan pointing upwards so its only hitting my gfx card and no freezes, i have been monitering my gfx card temp for about an hour now and its not perfect but im not freezing.

So now i need some kind of cooling thinggy for my gfx card, the card allready has a fan and i have another fan built on my tower, anyone know the best way to cool it down?

There are several possibilities... case fans in three sizes from $12 to $50... devices that fit into a pci slot and allow a forceful fan to be aimed from a swivel point... Best to see them at a computer hardware or electronics store in person, but available at many sites online... www.cyberguys.com, www.outpost.com, www.tigerdirect.com, www.techdepot.com, and stores of your choice.

There are gadgets that can be screwed or clamped to a number of supports inside your case which enable directed fans, when combined with a good case fan for extracting hot air can reduce temperatures by 26 degrees, in our experience.

Fans just bolted into an opening do not seem to help much.

i found out why my gfx card was overheating, i took it out my case and silly old me, it was jammed with hard dust :/ not good. When i put it back in correctly, made sure i didnt knock anything out, i pressed power... now when it says windows xp with the loading bar it flicks to BSOD (blue screen of death) then resets

have you tried safe mode?
once there go in to
control panel>system>Advanced>startup and recovery
make sure the box taht says automatic restart isnt checked.

when you next get a BSOD you can read what it says ...
it will prolly mention something about the gfx card.

if you cant get into safe mode then you should try getting hold of a different video adapter or maybe if your mobo has onboard gfx then use that
with your old disconnected

then uninstall all the drivers for teh faulty card and then turn off
insert new card and hope windows "likes" it

just out of interest, how did you clean your card?
if you used a hoover then you'll need to get a new card coz chances are youve ruined it

i picked the dust out of the fan with a stick lol, i made sure i didnt knock anything + it wont let me go into safe mode, let me go look at what it says.

when i try safemode, it reads the list of system32/drivers/blablabla then at the bottom of the screen in bold white it says:

press escape to cancle loading SPTD.SYS

"SPTD.sys is the driver for Daemon tools. Try updating daemon tools or uninstall the programme." from elsewhere on this TechSpot forum. There are others here with a search

This is a most common error, and there is a huge amoung of information you can find with a Google search for "SPDT.Sys error"

Most recommend uninstalling software of certain types, but we don't know what you have. Try the Google search first.
