Computer freeze due to video card

i recently bought a Radeon x1650gt from newegg. I installed it and it froze in windows startup.
My previous card was a long-lasting Radeon 9550, and it worked fine.
Can anybody tell me the reason?
I have a nForce3 mobo, athlon +3000 (939), 1gb ddr2, 80gb hdd, 450w power supply, and a sb-live sound card.

Does it freeze in safe mode? Possibly you need more than a 450w power supply, as cheap ps dont ever deliver their rated values anyway.

check the compatability of the video card..
