Doing a lot of work with maya just now and my scene keeps freezing, when it does this I can see that maya spikes to using over 800 megs.

In the bottom right, it says commit charge 1020 (approx) m / 3925 m.

I've only got one gig, and that's what it usually says there.

Anyone know what is going on there?

thanks,

gubar.

Your drawing is using more memory than you have so it has to park all that the extra information on the hard disk, in a temporary area called 'pagefile'. It's your computer's scratch disk area for temporary data that doesn't fit in RAM or 'memory'. The pause you see is the time it takes to write or edit or read the data in the pagefile area of the hard drive. You would need more memory if you want faster response, looks like at least another Gigabyte. maybe 4 GB total depending on how I read those values.

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense now, the total displayed is my actual memory and the pagefile memory combined.

Turns out that my file was in a mess, with lots of hidden objects, which is why it was spiking so much.

thanks again,

gubar
