Computer Rage...a short story of how I got an orphaned AMD

I live in central Arizona. (but it's a dry heat)
In a very large Apt. complex. Plenty of neibhors
needing upgrades, questions answered and general pc stuff.
Most are average users, inet/home finance etc., with one or two gamers. (only one serious other than myself)
I try to be helpful where I can.
I make a meager living fixin pc's. (kinda mobil tech)

I've mostly run hand me down intel's til recently.

Two months ago the serious gamer approached me, asking if I'd help him
build a box, that he could run the latest nascar sim.

As you can see in my profile/second machine, is what we started building:
AMD 2700 atholon XP
BFG GeForce 6800 gt
1 gig ddr
antec 425 psu
audigy2 platinum
seagate baracuda 120 gig w/ oem xp home
mitsumi dvd/cdrw

what you don't see:
samsung synmaster 213 21" lcd digital/analog
logitech momo racing wheel & wireless key/mouse

I was very impressed with this pc! Games ran GREAT!
He tends not to be very patient and not willing to shop around and compare prices.

So total came out to around 3500$ usd incld. extend warranties.

We built the pc, loaded everything. All went well for about 5 weeks.
Then he bought a pair of 3d glasses made for lcd's. He tried installing them
on the analog side of Vid card.

{What I was not aware of he was runn'in the vid/lcd with both digital and analog cables connected.(I still don't know if this is a good thing)}

The morning after his failed install of the 3d glasses, he came by my place
to see if I could install them for him. I told him of course I'd give it swing.

this is where it gets alittle wierd

I got no more than two mins at the keyboard. I'd booted the pc, hit delete to get into bios setup, once I was in the bios the video started blinking on and off. blk screen-bios blk screen-bios blk screen-bios, you get the idea.
He took one look at this and started yanking wires and cord off the backside of the box while it's on then picked up the box and head out the door towards the dumpster.

You may need to know here, I did not charge him for this build since he's a friend and fellow geek.(so I thought)

I intercepted him and asked for a chance to fix it. He said NO!
So, I asked if he was just givin it to the trash diggers.

He paused a moment then handed me the box saying I could have it,
that he was done with computer peices of @#&!!

I told him I would get it workin and bring it back to him.

He got quite beligerant saying if I didn't get it outta his sight he'd smash it!
This drew alot of attention with neibhors and I didn't want anyone call'in da cops, so I took it to my place.

I know his wife as well and gave her a call, at work, to let her know whats up and that I had the box at my place. She asked me to look out my door to see if I could see her place, she wanted to know if he was toss'in any other stuff.

Sure e-nuff there goes 1000$ worth of LCD(not lookin as good as it did 5 mins ago) it kinda had a foot print on it....:(

Apparently this is not the 1st time he's done this. She told me of 3 other times (prior to my meeting him) he's done the same thing before, costing close to 15,000$ usd.

She got home from work and came down to my place. I thought she'd be pick'in up the box but what she did was give me all the receiptes, and tell me to just keep it all, that she was glad it didn't go to the dump this time. She'd also brought all the games he had with alot of other componants..

That was three weeks ago, and I've offered to give it back (working mind you) several times to both their refusals.

So you see I now own an orphaned AMD...
:hotbounce Beware of Computer Ragers :hotouch:

Well

He & his wife work for same company. She's mgmnt.
He's maintinance. So she tends to be the one pay'in out.
Tho not for much longer it seems.
What a waste :blackeye:

WOW ouch dude that is just sick some computer geek huh hey at least you got a pretty sweet machine and a WICKED graphics card and there is no way that machine should have cost $3500 dollars though. WOW

You have to take those little things and cherish them. Because you know something is going to happen and you will give something away to someone else, in a similar manner. Not necessarily out of disgust and anger, but you understand. What goes around comes around. But I'm happy for you :) Enjoy it!!

This indeed is too true

As things have happened since, I've had opportunity
to do just that!
Now that AMD is my primary machine and BFG is sending
a replacment 6800 gt oc today, I have a few boxes (p4 2.0 & 2.4)
that are going to some niehbors that are finacialy challenged.
what comes around, MUST go around, or the pipes get clogged.

I saw my raging friend last night, and he seems alot more settled
down compared to a couple a weeks ago.

Athalon

I'm running it as my primary machine. I used to be Intel
I salvaged everything but the samsung 21" Lcd.
