Computer recognizes IP addresses doesn't recognize domain

Hi, I recently bought a Sony Vaio laptop for college.
We had a wireless router installed and it worked for about 3 days.
I woke up the next day to check my email on my laptop and the internet was not working. I called tech support for both the router company and my ISP.
They finally came up with the conculsion that my computer knew it was on the internet, could recognize IP addresses but it has a problem when it is recognizing domains. Am i going to have to take my NEW computer in to a repair shop? Any suggestions/comments are GREATLY appreciated.

So your computer cannot resolve names?

A good first thing to do:
Run the Windows command prompt (I assume you have Windows) from Start->Run, 'cmd'
Run "ipconfig /all" and paste the output here.

try disabling dhcp in the router
the router and modem may be having a spat
