Computer restarts with adsl modem plugged in

I am running windows 98se with a sagem fast 500 adsl modem- if I have it connected at start up the computer restarts itself as soon as it has finished starting up. This is not a big problem as I can plug it in after starting up but does anyone know a solution?

If your modem has a network (LAN) port and your computer has a network / LAN card, then use a network cable instead. USB modems are silly.

If you don't have any options, my generic solution would be to download the latest drivers and firmware for your modem... This may solve your issue.
