Computer shutdown

Hi,I could do with some help. My computer has stated to to shut it self down,
when it starts back up having automatically checking files I get this message
THE SYSTEM HAS RECOVERED FROM A SERIOUS ERROR.
I have done virus and spy ware checks and what has been found has been dealt with yet this problem persists.Anyone got any ideas?????

Thanks for the response but knowing very little about computers what should I be looking for once I have accessed event viewer and have the application,security and system logs to view.

Take a look at the System and Application logs. Check for Red X's. They are a good indicator that something went wrong. There are also Yello !'s which give you information.
 
post 3 or 4 minidumps as a zipped attachment for analysis or download the windows debugger from M$ and check it yourself. (much better)
Also download crap cleaner (free) and use it religiously. The registry repair tool is very handy.
