Computer Won't Start

I am trying to get a friends box going.

It's a Windows XP Home machine that has worked fine up until about 2 weeks ago.

When turning the computer on, the screen stays blank, the keyboard lights illuminate, then go out.

I tried another monitor with the same results.

To turn the machine off, I have to use the power button.

Thanks in advance for any help.

are u getting any beep ? on booting are u sure it is booting! if not then it the culprit could the graphics card try using another graphics card.

doesn't even sound like it's going into the bios if the box don't beep.

but if the screen is always blank, i agree the vid card might be the culprit. is it integrated or PCI/AGP? if it's the latter, try replacing and see if you get any image during initial boot up.

What I tried

Another video card - no help.
Do not hear any beeps from the unit
Can hear the HD working, and it's ***** light is on.
I changed the ribbon cable from the MB to the HD, no change.
The battery is testing good.

The only thing I can think of now, is that the MB is gone.

Thansk again.

I have had this problem in the past and found that it is one of two things.
Try changing the keyboard. I have had this problem at my work and after Racking my brain for weeks, i found that the keyboard was the issue.
Second issue could be RAM.
Hope this helps
