Connect to friends Cable internet???

  1. ok this might be the worng place for this thread

    but i want to connect to my friends internet connection

    say he has comcast cable

    how do i set up my computer to connect to his computer

    i want to share his internet connection

    and i was wondering how to use it

    he lives about 1 mile from me, and i have a Linsys cable modem, if you could please help

    You can get a 1 mile long cable and a lot of repeaters.
    How exactly did you think you were going to share his connection? Do you have internet access at all?

    You can: a) run a mile of cable to his place b) set up a wireless link

    Since you are asking this question here, you should really find someone with more experience to help you out in person.

    if only i had someone to ask

    and if i set up the wireless connection, would the range be that far?

    A mile is not a problem with good directional antennas. You need direct line of sight to your friend's place of course.

    The range of a wireless connection is about 100m (328 feet) depending on its signal. Alternatively, you can install a wireless adapter, say, Linksys WUSB54G Wireless-G Network Adapter and hope that one of your nearby neighbours has an 'unsecured' wireless router which is switched on frequently for you to access the internet.
