Connecting laptop to tv

hi guys
i have a hp pavilion zv5000 laptop and a samsung dlp tv
i want to connect the laptop to the tv and use tv as a monitor
i got the tv to show the start up screen but when it gets to the
logon screen it doesnt show it on the tv. I logon to windows and
i do get the background picture but thats it no icons or mouse pointer
no use of windows funtions.if any one can help thanks!

Go into your graphics card settings and set it to clone.

This can usually be done by right clicking on the background then properties then settings. Provided you have xp, you havent said what os you use.

HP and Compaqs have feature so you can run the PC LCD and TV LCD mode at the sametime. Look in your Display under then under Advance. You should see pictures for PC Monitor, LCD Monitor and TV. If you have S-Video or HDMI on the Laptop use that and connect to the Samsung DLP LCD. It works But remember when you boot-up the laptop it will display Windows on the laptop LCD before it hits the TV. On TV side you should see where you would enter your username and password. When you get ot this point close the laptop and just use the TV. Oh yes you'll need wireless keyboard and laser mouse. I use Logitech MX710 works great but expensive..
