I only have Works for Windows available for my word processing docs (I have not paid for the full version Word software). I have changed the file extensions on some Works documents from .wps to .doc, but when I email to another person, it comes up as jibberish. What more can I or do I have to do in order for the files to open correctly?

You can create them in OpenOffice & save them as Microsoft Word documents. Your friend shouldn't have any problems opening them.
