CPU Voltage!!

Hi

I have a ECS p4 motherboard with a p4 cpu running at 1.7ghz, the voltage on it is 1.75. I was wondering of getting another processor, lets say 1.9 ghz which runs at 1.5 volts. I think it should work, but is that the only compatibility issue or are there other issues that i need to know about in order to install another cpu.

my mother board accepts p4 and celeron processors.

Thank You

whatever CPUs your motherboard manual says it will take should work. There are certain circumstances where you may have to bump voltage a notch, but so far, I have only heard that's the case with memory - Kingston to be specific.

Definately consult the manual first. That is a wilamette P4 and your board may not support northwood or prescott processors. I believe northwood started at 2.0ghz though. A BIOS update may be in order to allow your motherboard to use newer CPUs.
