I removed the hsf off my athlon 2500+ to clean it, but when i was putting it back on, i chipped the core. =( Before it used to run at about 45 C idle , but now with the crack on the core, it runs at around 50-52 C idle. Can the processor keep running despite the crack or should i replace it immediately?

It will probably run fine. I've seen plenty of chipped Athlons...

Just be careful about HSF installation and removal! It will only get worse as you diddle with it more.

The rise in temperate is probably due to the decrease in surface area of the core. Now, less of the core is making contact with HSF which means less heat dissipation.

I broke all 4 corners off my Thunderbird and it still works fine. If you're using the stock fan you might want to ditch it. I got a Speeze HSF and it dropped my temp 10* and its alot more quiet. CPU runs at 40*c now and thats OC'd.
