Crackling sounds on burnt cd-r's?

Okay, what's causing these background and sometimes loud crackling sounds on a burnt music cd-r? I've tried everything except a new cd/dvd burner (I've got a nice Plextor 708A). I've tried new software, different brands of cd-r's, etc. I've even tried cleaning my burner. A friend of mine has come across the same problem. What's up? Thanks in advance.

try slowing the burn rate down some. for example, if its set to max burn, try something like 8x or 6x etc. when you burn the music. is it only when you playback cd-r music? does the same thing happen when you stream music?

I get that crackle only on cd-r playback. Yep, I guess all I can do is lower the burn rate way down. Thanks.

Your (I've got a nice Plextor 708A) may be on it's way out. Start saving your pennies for another writer. There's really no reason to go with an expensive Plextor. Lite-On or NEC are good dependable writers, at a good fair price
