crash when changing screen resolution and other problem

Whever i try to change my screen resolution (using control panel) my monitor goes black, with some kind of small flashing line at the top left corner (something for commands, i guess, but i cant type anything). It stays at the screen until i restart it.

My other problem is that in My Computer it shows that my HD is only 1.99 gb, when it is reallly 38.1 gb. I just reinstalled windows (xp pro), by the way...

Some basic specs i knows off the top of my head, its a old computer

Nvdia geforce fx 5500
Maxtor 40gb HDD
Pentium 3 1.0 ghz

I dont know any specifics

You have improperly partitioned the hard drive during the XP reintall. You will have to partition the hard drive and reinstall Windows. You need to download and install the latest Nvidia Gforce drivers for your video card. Doing these things will solve your problems
