i have a dell d600 laptop just replaced the motherboard because it was shorted. put it all back together my power pack light stays on now,but when i turn the computer on its boots half way up then turns off i cant enter into startup or bio's it shuts off before then. what could be the problem?

I have never tried what you are doing , but I bet the Mb is tied to the Setup program that sits in a small Fat 16 partition Dell portables have.It may be that you have to re-install that set-up program to connect with the new Mb.
Is this Mb new from Dell or is it scavenged?
Are there no insructions for it.
You load this program with a flash type install from floppies. You will have to get the correct files from Dell.
That is if I am right.

its a dell refurbished board, the bio's say A08. it stays on longer with battery as opposed to being plugged in. i got as far as windows checking disc for errors,i get to setup and i tried every possible option it gave but shuts off to soon to do anythink else. and thank you for you response
