Dead Hard drive?

My friend was shutting down his PC the other day, and didn't feel like waiting for it to shut itself down, so he held the button down. I went there, did what I could, reset bios, boot disk etc etc and I couldn't get it to read windows. It would post up and once it would start loading windows it would restart. I am thinking the hardrive is dead, any second opinions?

You could also try a Windows repair but in any case I don't believe the hard drive is dead. That would seem to be a very fragile hard drive if such was the case.
