  1. I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 and I was wondering why when sometimes I start it up and go to My Computer, It does not even see that i have a cd drive?

    Could have a bad connection. Or could be the board is going bad.

    It shouldn't be the mother board..I just got it a year ago

    That cd drive is probably a DVD writer and it may need a firmware update.

    In a perfect world a motherboard would never go bad because it doesn't have moving parts. But in reality they do die.

    I don't think there is much advice to give here. You can try running an entire OS off of it and see if it works all the time.
