Dell USB problems

Hi,
I've got problems getting any USB device to work on my Dell Inspiron 1000 running under XP Home edition. Basically it recognises the device but then loads up the "found new hardware" wizard which fails to find the correct drivers.

If anyone's got any ideas it would be fantastic!

There many different types of USB devices. Basically they usually come with their own specific drivers. You should check the Manufacturer's web for installation instructions.
It is common to install the software bfore installing the hardware.
You may have to close the Hardware Wizard and use an installation file from the Manufacturer or direct the Wizard to the correct files by using the manual installation procedure.
Also make sure your USB controller drivers are the latest version at Dell or Microsoft Update.XP has had a couple of updates to the USB driver system.
