Directx 9.0c sound issue

I'm having trouble with directx 9.0c and my sound card. I installed directx 9.0c after having no trouble with dx 9.0b. I needed to update for gaming reasons, but have had to do a reg restore as every game I play the sound goes all hissy and the game locks. Well at least I think its a sound issue, or could it be grapics? Any ideas on how to solve this would be much appreciated as I need to get dx9.0c so I can play certain games.

I am running the following

MB Gigabyte GA-8IGX
xp pro sp1 with updates
sound blaster 5.1 creative drivers
128 ti4200 latest nvdida drivers
768 ddr 333 ram

Im sry but i have been hearing many concerns about directx9.0c and problems with sound and junk but... i dont have that problem and it may be the reason is that i have sp2.. although i think that just doesnt make sense.. but then again its microsoft.... who knows.... if i get any more info as to anyone figuring it out ill tell ya

Yeah I did think about sp2 but I'm not to keen at this stage until I've tried other options if there are any I guess I'll just have to play around with it when I get the time.
