i've been troubleshooting problems my PC is having with audio and in doing so, i came across these errors under System in Event Viewer

The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, is not ready for access yet.

Are these common? Anything to worry about? I have XP SP2 with 2 SATA drives, no IDE (except IDE CD/DVD)...an Asus A8V Deluxe mobo with latest drivers all around.

Again, these happen in pairs...two always at the exact same time.

Is this showing me i have some problem somewhere? any clues? thanks! ;)

No,it`s not a problem.Windows is always doing a zillion things in the background. The event viewer details every single one.

no problem you say?
i just talked to a mega-geek i work with who says this:

"...that's a sign of the dreaded SATA Event ID 51 XP
bug. It basically causes your machine to run slower in the
short term. The disk often makes skipping sounds, like
its being heavily accessed in one spot when the error
happens. It often eventually corrupts data on the
drive and leads to crashes. There is no universal
solution, as there's a lot of finger pointing going on
right now about who's to blame. (Drivers, hardware
fault, XP bug, etc...)

I'd suggest changing the drivers for your SATA
controllers. Try changing to the MS default ones, try
disabling NCQ, try turning off BIOS speed detection,
etc till one of them resolves the problem."

Can anyone else verify this?...heard of this?
It may not make any difference but I notice these disk errors actually show Event ID 15.

I`ve seen similar errors in my event viewer before,so far with no ill effects. That doesn`t mean to say it`s not a problem though.I`d be as interested as you are in finding out what it means.

well, i have to take a step back...after telling my friend it was showing Event of 15, not 51, he says then it's not this known serious SATA XP bug.

he suggests it is still a SATA problem, not quite a serious one, but that it shouldn't be happening still. he recommends trying different versions of the SATA driver and other BIOS tweaks to see if i can get rid of it.

anyone else see this error? System error, Event 15:

The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, is not ready for access yet.
