Does TV tuner card, or graphics card, let you play DVD's & watch on TV?

Building new system,
ASUS P4C800E-Del board,
ASUS TV tuner card
ASUS GEForce 6600GT graphics card

Will that setup allow me to put
a DVD into the computer and
hook it up so I can watch it on
the TV? Bigger screen of course.

Graphics card has S-video and "composite"
TV output - would that mean
I'd have to have an S video
hookup on the tv to connect?

Thanks!

TV-Out on the videocard will allow you to watch DVD's on your TV.

Of course, this assumes you have a DVD player (such as WinDVD, PowerDVD or other popular DVD viewing program).

It means if you have a standard Video-In RCA connection on your TV you can use this... -or- if your TV is fairly new, it should also have S-Video Video inputs as well. Your videocard supports both of these methods of video-out, so you can use either.

If your TV is fairly new, it should have both RCA/Composite Video-IN and SVideo inputs. Prefer SVideo though as it has better resolution and quality compared to rca-cable/composite.

Yes, I'll have Nero as well as WinDVD (isn't that
in XP?)

I looked at the ASUS site, at the graphics card.

It says it has TV-out, but just looks like S Video
out from the picture of the card, no RCA jacks
that I could see. (S video DOES output both
video & audio?)

I'm away from home on a job out of state so
just have the old TV with me - I'm pretty sure
all it has are the RCA jacks (I'm at work right
now) - I don't suppose there's any type of
adapter to hook up an S video outlet from the
card to an RCA jack on the tv?

Not even 100% sure it has an RCA jack -
just in case, how about an adapter from
S video to a standard coax into the TV
JUST IN CASE that's all it has? :(

Thanks!

(EDIT)

Well, shoulda searched before I asked -
of COURSE there are adapters!

Seems nowdays there is just about
anything available that a person can
conceive of, even some things that
I've never dreamed of!

If it's an ASUS, it should come with such an adapter. They usually include a small cable with svideo->rca that plugs into the svideo out on the back of the card.

Svideo does not carry audio- just video. And "Composite" means RCA, which is why they include the cable. If you wish to run the audio from your computer to your stereo system, you'll need a mini-phono to 2-RCA adapter to plug into your soundcard. You can get these at Radio Shack for like $5 or so.

See the pic here from NewEgg of the kit that comes with the Asus 6600GT- the cable is svideo->rca:

That's what I thought I had read about S video.

The board has pretty decent sound and speaker
outlets right on it, so I could just get the sound
off of that.

I'll have to look in that card box, don't remember
if I saw that cable or not.

Thanks much!!!
