I use Mozilla Firefox but have Internet Explorer on just in case I need it.How do I get the updates for XP without starting the automatic update service? - I just like to retain the choice of when to update & what - even if I don't quite know what it is. I saw this * from Realblackstuff & wondered if I should do this? Is there an easy way using "Set ProgramAccess & defaults" from XP (home ed.) "Add or Remove Programs" - Custom configuration?

In both browsers,when asked to check if this is the default browser, answer "no". Small problem: a program that calls up/needs abrowser may pick the"wrong" one. Advice: Set FF as default, and in IE go to Tools/Internet Options/Programs tab and un-check the "check if IE is the default browser".

To manually update, just click on Start/Windows Update
If asked for IE to be default, answer NO
