Hello. Due to a power outage I am unable to start Windows. I'm stuck on the black screen saying "Windows cannot start because the following file is missing or corrupt \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM". I have a SONY Vaio XP and the Recovery Wizard is on a serperate drive, so I don't have a physical disk to repair it with. I read about BartPE, but my other XP doesn't have a CD burner to create the disk. The other PC that does have a burner is WinME or 2000. I just want to save my data and then recover the whole system. Is there any way possible to achieve this? or is it possible to use the Vaio Recovery Wizard from the blank screen to repair this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Apparently Windows registry is broken/missing/unavailable.. God bless Windows designers :)

To retrieve the data.. Take out the hard drive and put it in the other computer?

I was actually able to use Knoppix to access my files. I had never heard of it before this incident, but I'm glad I know about it now.

Thanks for your time and replies.
