DVD Driving me mad

I have a Philips SPD2400L1 DVD rewriter and over the last few weeks the drive has had a problem with using CD-R. It has become impossible to write on them but has no trouble reading them. I also have no problem using DVD's. I have tried updating the drivers but that has done nothing. I have lost a mountain of CD-R's in the process of trying to fix it, can anybody help me?

Check which mode your drive is running in:
- Open Device Manager
- Look for IDE/Atapi Controllers
- Open Properties of the Secondary IDE channel
- Look under advanced settings. The transfer mode should be DMA Ultra <<some.number>>

If it isn't running in DMA, uninstall the primary and secondary channels and reboot, which should knock it back into DMA mode.

Thanks altheman, but that did not seem to be the problem as it was already running in DMA mode. But going through my device manager it says that my SCSI/RAID host controller driver may be missing or corrupted. Could that have anything to do with it?
